A busy Library located in downtown Morristown, The Morristown & Morris Township Library serves residents of the Township of Morris, the Town of Morristown, greater Morris County and beyond. The genesis of our Library began in 1792 as a private membership library but became a joint free public library in 1966. Our Library provides residents with reading materials, access to technology and continuing education, self-improvement, enjoyment, and information. We provide a myriad of virtual and in-person programming for both adults and children, have an active Caroline Rose Foster North Jersey History & Genealogy Center that preserves state and local manuscripts, books, photographs, maps, newspapers and more. We regularly collaborate with local organizations and participate in many annual events in the area. Our bookmobile service, which began in the 1920s, serves preschools, after school programs, day care centers, and senior facilities in our service area. We maintain Little Free Libraries in our municipalities and through our Friends of the Library do booksales weekly throughout the year to raise funds for everything from needed Library technology to free books for children that we provide to attendees of our multiple summer reading book clubs. With a staff of 48, we maintain a welcoming atmosphere for patrons of all walks of life inside our 1917 historic building that was expanded in 1930, 1987, and 2006.
