Information Services Librarian (part-time)
Every other Sunday & one evening per week (8 hours total)
The South Brunswick Library, located halfway between the metropolitan hubs of NYC and Philadelphia, is home to a diverse, growing community that values all the services the Library provides. Our staff is dedicated to providing excellent customer service through innovative programming, community engagement and outreach, and our Mobile Branch.
Our Library is finishing a multi-million construction project that expanded and repurposed our existing building, and we are excited to bring new team members aboard as we build our next chapter. Renovations include a new auditorium, state-of-the art meeting room, an expanded Teen Room, group study rooms, an instruction lab and more.
The South Brunswick Public Library is seeking an experienced, collaborative, customer service-oriented individual to join our staff as a part-time Librarian.
As part of the Information Services Department and reporting to the Head of Information Services, the ideal candidate will be able to create a welcoming atmosphere at the Information Desk, provide all library users with assistance in reference, readers’ advisory, information literacy, and in the use of library materials and reference resources; possess excellent communication skills; enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility and a sense of humor.
The schedule includes every other Sunday, year-round, in addition to one weekday evening shift. Will be eligible for additional hours on a fill-in basis.
Fluency in a language other than English, knowledge of Polaris/LEAP, and experience with community outreach and engagement is a plus.
Job Qualifications:
MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution and NJ Public Library Certification, or enrollment in a graduate-level program from an ALA accredited institution.
Ability to keep informed of current objectives, principles, and techniques of librarianship and a willingness to adapt to new technologies, trends, and innovations.
Possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Knowledge of reference and reader’s advisory services.
Willingness to assist patrons with the library catalog, digital resources and collections, public computers, and other library technology.
Willing to perform other duties as assigned.
Salary:
2026 starting rate for Librarian is $32.98/hour.
For those who have a MLIS degree in-progress, they would be paid at the Information Assistant rate, reflecting coursework completed.
