ABOUT BCLS
The Burlington County Library System (BCLS) consists of 15 locations, and both a Mobile Library and a Mobile Learning Lab that travel to dozens of community touchpoints throughout the largest county in the state. In addition, a Library by Mail service expands our reach in new and unique ways. We are an organization committed to staff growth and continuing education to help our team keep up with the everchanging library field. DESCRIPTION
The Burlington County Library System seeks an individual who is passionate about serving children and their caregivers in all aspects of the library. This position will be part of a team committed to offering creative and innovative programming, promoting library services, and connecting with the local community to share all BCLS has to offer. This ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, service-oriented, and self-motivated.
Examples of duties include:
• Design and implement children’s programs to facilitate a love of reading and learning to include, but not limited to, story times, crafts, STEM activities, and other programming for ages 0-12.
• Facilitate system initiatives such as the Summer at the Library Program, One Thousand Books Before Kindergarten, and corresponding activities at the branch.
• Participate in outreach events serving children, families, and local early literacy organizations.
• Provide outstanding customer service and readers’ advisory; demonstrate knowledge of print and online resources.
• Assist with collection management tasks, including evaluating children’s materials, and collection development.
• Attend professional conferences, seminars, and committees; read professional literature; attend and participate in staff meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Ability to manage deadlines, organize, and prioritize work independently.
• Demonstrate collaborative team leadership and work with peers on shared events.
REQUIREMENTS
A master’s degree in library or information science in a library program accredited by the American Library Association or from a New Jersey Master’s program in Library Science that has been deemed acceptable by Thomas Edison State Collect. Obtain a New Jersey license as a Professional Librarian within six (6) months of appointment.
SCHEDULE
37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday 9-5pm, including one evening per week; Friday evening rotation September-June; rotating Saturdays; 4 Sundays per year at a choice of branches throughout the system. Flexibility is a must for outreach events and additional evening shifts and weekends as needed.
