The Elizabeth Public Library is seeking a part-time library assistant to join our Children’s Department. Our ideal candidate is flexible, enjoys working with kids and tweens, and is enthusiastic about creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for the youth of Elizabeth.
Responsibilities:
Staff the Children’s Services desk and provide excellent customer service to patrons.
Engage with children in the library’s children’s space.
Assist with planning and implementing programs and displays.
Create programming flyers
Provide reader’s advisory and basic reference assistance
Assist with collection maintenance, including shelving and discarding materials
Troubleshoot library technology, including computers and tablets.
Qualifications:
Enjoys working with children and creating a welcoming, comfortable environment.
Knowledge of or interest in children's literature, pop culture, and current trends.
Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
Basic computer proficiency.
Previous experience working with youth, whether paid or volunteer, is highly desirable.
Schedule:
This position is 19 hours per week and may include mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Compensation:
$18.00/hr
