The West Orange Public Library seeks a full-time Librarian to join our busy Youth Services Department serving the diverse community of West Orange. Tap into your creativity with the opportunity to provide storytimes and book discussions for children of all ages. Use your skills to answer challenging questions at the youth services information desk. Help build our excellent youth services collections with your knowledge of children’s and teen’s materials.
The ideal candidate is an innovative, knowledgeable and creative librarian who will help develop, manage and market the Library’s youth services programs and collections. In-depth knowledge of resources, library trends, technology, programming and children’s/young adult literature is expected.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direction of the Head of Youth Services, develop and manage the Library’s youth services/young adult collections. Provide pro-active reader’s advisory and reference service to youth, teens, and parents. Provide dynamic programming to youth and teens. The Youth Services Librarian creates written documents including reports and materials for public distribution.
QUALIFICATIONS: MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution and a New Jersey Professional Librarian’s Certificate. Experience in collection development and youth/teen services preferred. Good interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Enthusiasm for working with children and teens is essential. 37.5 hours per week. Evening and weekend hours are required.
This position is subject to NJDOP regulations.
SALARY: Salary starts at $65,000. The position also includes an excellent benefits package.
